Are You Serving God the Old Way or the New Way?

There are basically two ways to serve God: 1. “The Old Way of the Written Code” (Human effort, good works, religious duty) 2. “The New Way of the Spirit” (Grace, faith, power of the Holy Spirit) Paul, a very religious man, finally figured out he had spent his entire life serving God the old way, living by the written code. He then tried to explain his new revelation to the Romans. “We have been released from the law so that we serve in the NEW WAY OF THE SPIRIT, and not in the OLD WAY ….

I had an experience a few days ago and it was so profound that it has nearly become a life philosophy for me. Let me explain.I strained my back last week. I don’t usually have back problems and I’m actually in pretty good shape but I’ve had a lot of travel recently. During one stretch I hauled a heavy suitcase to multiple speaking events across the country, something I don’t normally do. The beds at some of my hotels attacked me in my sleep. I stupidly worked out too hard one day to compensate for ….

by Paolo Punzalan ‘JUST MET WITH A GUY who sincerely desired to grow his relationship with God. I thoroughly enjoyed our talk. I loved his humility. He acknowledged He needed God in His life and was ready to do whatever it takes to get from point A to B. He asked what are the steps to take.  I couldn’t give any.  Not that I didn’t have any in mind, but I didn’t want having a relationship with Jesus be reduced to a series of do’s and don’t’s. Unfortunately (or fortunately), that’s the thing with relationships. ….

by Stephen MansfieldI received an email this week. It asked that I offer again a piece I wrote nearly two decades ago. I’m happy to do so. May it be an encouragement to those who serve in unnoticed roles.________________________________________Her name was Elizabeth Anne Everest. Few today will remember her. In fact, few would have known of her even during her lifetime, which ended in near obscurity in 1895. She was, after all, only a nannyone of thousands in Victorian Englandwho quietly spent their days caring for the children of other people. Strolling in a park ….

by Steve Murrell WHILE READING MY BIBLE this morning I got stuck on one verse. Here it is. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel (Phil1:27)Here are my notes:WHATEVER HAPPENS - Paul is in prison for preaching the gospel – he might die or he might be released – whether our leader is present or not ….

By Paolo Punzalan You might remember this line from the movie Apollo 13. The space craft was in the verge of disaster and so were the lives of the astronauts inside it. It was in this framework that Dr. Howard Hendricks mentioned the problem in leadership we have in the church. There is a lack of leadership in the church that eventually spills out into society. The greater problem he presents is that unfortunately, we have people who are in positions of leadership yet one thing is lacking – CALLING. Houston, we really have BIG ….

By Steve Murrell I think I blogged about this sometime in the past few years, but since I can’t remember for sure, you probably can’t either. Some time ago I spoke to thirty of our Victory-Manila and Every Nation Philippines admin staff about the corporate culture we are trying to create. Here’s the culture we intentionally build in our Manila-based Every Nation, Victory-Manila, LifeBox (campus ministry) and Real LIFE Foundation administrative, management, and operations teams. 1. A MISSIONAL CULTURE: The Passionate Vision of a World-wide Church-planting and Missions Movement. Missional simple means to think and ….

by Dennis Sy I was reading through the book of Judges yesterday when I came upon chapter 17 of the book where a man hired a personal priest/pastor to meet his needs spiritually. Judges 17:6-13 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.  Now there was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah; he was a Levite, and was staying there. The man departed from the city of Bethlehem in Judah to stay wherever he could find a place. Then he ….
