Jim Laffoon

by Jim Laffoon Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came to her to have their disputes decided. She sent for Barak, son of Abinoam, from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead the way to Mount Tabor. I will lure Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, ….

The Certainty of Forgiveness

by Steve MurrellWhile reading Ephesians this morning I was struck by the certainty of forgiveness.Paul wrote: “In him WE HAVE redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins…” (Eph 1:7)Paul writes that WE HAVE redemption & forgiveness. He did not say that we might have forgiveness sometime in the future, or we could possibly have, or we hope we might do enough good deeds to earn forgiveness…According to Paul forgiveness is certain, something we can have. And we can know we have it. Right now. Present tense. Why can we be so certain we are forgiven?Paul ….

by Lynette LewisTHE FIRST EMAIL I read this morning was from a friend who was up in the middle of the night, having so much heartache.  I sent her back encouragement and it struck me that what I shared might be encouraging to others.  In this case, I was also exhorting myself.  I trust this will bring encouragement to you, whatever you are facing. . .Oh my friend, I know this is one tough valley again, and you have been in it for a long time.  My confidence and conviction for you is,  THIS WILL ….

By Pastor Brett Fuller The occasion to write Ps 61 was the death of David’s son Absalom. He says in verse 1-2, “Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Abasolm had tried to steal the kingdom from his dad. Though he was an insurrectionist, a murderer (2Sam 13:28-29) and a traitor, he was still a son. None of his acts would rob him of the treasured status ….

By Lynette Lewis (note: This blog was written by Lynette Lewis on Jan 1, 2011) When do you hold on to a dream and when is it time to let go? For five years I’ve wanted to get pregnant.  I was pregnant once, but had a miscarriage.  My heart was broken yet hopeful it would happen again, right away.  Three years later, two surgeries, countless doctor visits and hundreds of prayers….still no pregnancy.  What’s a heart to do? Part of me remains full of faith…faith to believe and stand…faith stronger having been tested.  I’ve also ….

By Bruce Fidler Citizenship in heaven (Php 3:20) does not involve abandonment of the earth or humanity’s cultures. Rather, the citizenship metaphor is employed by Paul to contrast the identity and consequent motivation and desires of the believers with those who derive their identity solely from this fallen world. Indeed, these “enemies of the cross of Christ” have their mind set on “earthly things.” But Paul’s pejorative use of “earthly” in contrast to “heaven(ly)” should not be construed in a Gnostic manner that regards the material world to be intrinsically evil. If that were the ….

By Wolfi Eckleben At the start of Matthew 24 we see that Jesus wasn’t very impressed with His disciples when they were overly impressed with the “magnificent buildings” (Saying: “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”) … so He reminds them that it’s all going to be destroyed, so much so that not even one stone will be left unturned, so don’t become too impressed or too attached. Then, when He is up on the mountain, and the disciples come to Him privately with their questions trying to understand the “when” & “what must ….

by Adam Mabry “Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” – Gal. 6:9 Many of us are halfway there. Halfway through the semester, in the doldrums with our jobs, at the same ol’ grind with our families, and in this moment, it becomes very easy to get, well, weary. But I want you to know that God is with you, church!  He is with you, and fruitfulness and victory is around the corner, if we do not give up.  It’s tiring to ….
