Making a Difference One Child at a Time

by STAFF — The Every Nation end statement is: We exist to honor God by establishing Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, socially responsible churches and campus ministries in every nation. The social responsibility part takes many forms as local Every Nation churches and church members join, create, and lead independent organizations that address needs in their communities.

Every Nation churches internationally address a wide variety of needs — from street kids in Manila, to abandoned children in Africa, to communities devastated by natural disasters in Myanmar, to the children of prostitutes in Mumbai. Ten Day Medical Missions teams are working in places like Columbia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

In North America, Every Nation church members are constantly forming new organizations and volunteer groups to facilitate sustained acts of compassion. These groups and organizations exist to serve foster children, victims of child trafficking, inner-city poor, orphan-adoptions, etc. Among the best-established and most successful programs growing out of Every Nation churches in North America are the Youth Life Learning Centers (YLLC).

Youth Life Learning Centers

Darrell Green, Hall of Fame cornerback for the Washington Redskins and member of Every Nation church, Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, Virginia, established the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation in 1993. Youth Life Learning Centers are faith-based after-school programs for at-risk children. These inner-city Life Centers focus on academic, spiritual, and character development.

__Helping lead the way was Bethel Associate Pastor Tim Johnson, an NFL all-pro defensive end as well as close friend and teammate of Darrell Green.

In 2001, a group of church and business leaders from Bethel World Outreach Church in Brentwood, Tennessee, determined to do something for inner city children in their community. With the help of the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation and local business leaders, they established the first Youth Life Learning Center in Nashville.

Over the past 10 years, Youth Life Learning Centers in Nashville have served over 1,000 students in over twenty-five public schools. There are currently six Life Centers in Tennessee — five in Nashville and one in Memphis.

Tony Boselli and YLLC Kids

Tony Boselli and his wife, Angie, are members of Southpoint Community Church, an Every Nation church in Jacksonville, Florida. As a former all-pro lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tony is one of the most recognizable members of the Jacksonville community. In 2007 he founded the first Boselli Foundation Youth Life Learning Center in inner-city Jacksonville and has since led the community effort to establish two more Life Centers.

Yolanda Shields, CEO of Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee, says,

“The mission of Youth Life Learning Centers is to nurture the child, strengthen the family, and rebuild the community by aiding and supporting the educational, spiritual, and social development of at risk youth. I hope you will join us in a renewed commitment to providing children living in at-risk communities with hope for a bright future. Without the many sacrifices made, YLLC would not be what it is today, giving the next generation of leaders an opportunity to be successful and walk in their full purpose and destiny that God has for them.
