Underprivileged Students Dream Big in the Philippines

Pasig City, Philippines

Garry Taneo, Life Scholar

Ever since he was a kid, Garry Taneo's dream was to finish college and to get a job so he could fend for his family.

Garry, the youngest in a brood of four, started working at the age of 12 as a porter in a local wet market to help his parents make ends meet.

He was invited by a friend to attend an Every Nation youth service in Pasig and and because of the free snacks - he kept on coming back. He got saved later on when the Gospel was shared to him.

When Garry  learned about the Life scholarship, he grabbed what he felt was a God-given opportunity that could change his life.

Now, Garry is a Life Scholar studying Accountancy at Jose Rizal University. He is the first person in his family to complete high school and go to college.

Rizal High School students

Six years ago, Philip Buena was a ball boy at a posh country club manning the tennis courts for four hours a day from 7 am before going to class in Rizal High School in Pasig City.

Philip’s father was earning a small income as an air-conditioning technician while his mother was unemployed. With all four children in school, money was just not enough to go around.

Things could have turned out differently for Philip had it not been for LIFE Scholarships coming to his aid. LIFE Scholarships took care of Philip's tuition fee at the Pateros Technological College where he took up Computer Technology.

Philip was one of the first graduates under the Life Scholarship. “What the word of God has done for me, I want to see happen in other people’s lives,” Philip shares.
